I was pretty loose in my phrasing and he came back with an answer I didn't expect - an R32/R34 mashup, 10 second radioactive, giant lizard. That got me thinking... about Mustangs, predictably, and what I'd "buy" if money (and reality?) were no obstacle.

How about a 2011-12 Mustang Mach 1. A well tuned IRS out back, hi-po 6.2L up front, graphics and shaker like the 03-04.

My alternate would be a 67-69, notchback or fastback, with a Coyote and Cobra IRS.

I've already thought about this. Get ready:

1. A de-stroked VK56DE engine, with the stock 3.9" bore and a custom-fit 3.26" stroke crank from a VK45DE to make a ~5.1l low-stroke V8. High-duration cam and stiff spring setup to get peak power around 8000rpm.

2. A 1977 Datsun 280Z body, with a G-nose kit, fender flares, and shaved rear with dual exhaust cutouts. Body completely stripped to the metal, fitted with a fuel cell, 5 or 6 point roll cage, twin bucket seats, boost controller, navigation screen, and a few manual trick switches for various things. The frame will be stitch-welded with carbon fiber hatch, hood, and fenders, plus some support from the roll cage to prevent body flex due to acceleration.

3. Twin parallel turbo setup running at a cumulative 15psi into an plenum intake over interior velocity stacks and ITBs. And hey, while we're at it, let's make them both twin-scroll turbos, so we have a pseudo "quad turbo" setup, with the first parallel stage kicking in at 3500rpm, and the second at 6500rpm. These should be good for around 650 ft/lbs of torque and around 950+ HP at 8500rpm.

4. Body painted alpine white with clear headlight covers, (but the classic bulb headlights), orange hazard lights, and a chrome grill over a massive pair of intercoolers.

5. Sidepipe-exit exhaust after the turbos. Not running down the sides, as in exits at the fender Cobra R style.

6. Arizona Z Car 6-piston calipers and vented rotors, anti-sway bars, control arms, and polyurethane bushings. Fully adjustable coilover conversion, with pushrod F1-style suspension in the rear trunk, surrounding the fuel cell and methanol injection cell.

7. Custom-ratio TK600 6-speed (or just straight-up custom built) transmission connected to mechanical 9" (or larger) 1-way rear differential. Wide ratios to reduce the rear wheel torque and access high top speed.

8. Watanabe rims with custom Michelin Pilot Super Sports, the exact rubber depending on which year this car is being built, and what they've released. 16 inch rims with 305+ section tires and a beefy sidewall.

9. Methanol injection that kicks in on the second stage of the twin-scroll turbos.

10. Twin liquid cooled intercoolers, and as many radiators (and compressors) as necessary

11. No cupholders
